Subject : Submission of the Report of the National Rural Road Development Committee
This refers to the constitution of the National Rural Road Development Committee under my chairmanship vide Rural Road File No. P-17017/2/99-RR dated January 06,2000.
After having a series of meetings of the committee as well as in depth individual consultations with the members as well as other experts and eminent personalities in the field of rural infrastructure development and allied areas, I am pleased to submit the final report and recommendations of the Committee. I am sure that this report and the recommendations therein will go a long way in the formulation of a national policy and finalization of an action plan to accomplish 100% rural road connectivity by black topped road of 10 year durability in a time-bound and cost-effective manner. I am confident that if the recommendations of the committee are accepted and implemented by the Government of India, our long cherished dream of socio-economic transformation of rural India shall come true.
At this momentous occasion of submitting this historic report, I wish to sincerely thank you to have constituted this committee and to have given me this unique opportunity to serve the cause of rural India to which I am so deeply committed. But for your strong support, initiative and clear vision for the upliftment of rural India, it would not have been possible to formulate the report its present form with clarity and perfection. Your constant patronage and insightful guidance gave me and my fellow members all the inspiration in formulating this report.
While submitting the report, I sincerely acknowledge the inputs received form all the members of the committee. As far as possible, I have tried to include the suggestions of all the members. However, the suggestions which could not be included have also been carefully studied vis-à-vis their relevance to the terms of reference of this committee and the overall objectives of this program of great national significance.
